ImageI came across a cute little assemblage of etymologies of Lithuanian names the other day, and started plugging away. I was rather surprised to find some names that I thought had no chance of being there ("Skaidrys"), and I was startled by others that weren't ("Vija," for example). Still, what's perhaps most interesting is that when looking up my mom's name, "Daiva," this comes up:

Daiva (08.06), Daivis – sanskrito daiva „lemtis, dalia“ (Vydūno sukurtas vardas)

It had always struck me as cute that there was a word in Sanskrit , "दौव," that sounded like "Daiva," but I never imagined that the name was, in fact, ported over to Lithuanian by no less a luminary than Vydūnas. This, of course, would serve to be the seed of my grand scheme for my own brood, which was to give all the girls Sanskrit names (Sapna, Kavita, Priya, et cetera...).

So what's your name mean?
