When one of my teams loses, or faces trouble in the league, I tend to pout a little, maybe have a beer, whatever. I do not, however, proceed to buy a nuclear submarine, like Vladimir Romanov has done.Although the news reports of his buying a Soviet-era nuclear sub refer to it as a considered purchase, seeing that the submarine in question is also the same one Romanov served on in the 1960s, I can't help but wonder if the timing is related to the poor performance Hearts made in the first leg of their third round qualifying Champions League matchup. Hearts were unable to hang on to a 1–0 lead at home to AEK, courtesy of Saulius Mikoliūnas, giving up an equaliser and a game-winner in final two minutes of the match. Even worse, the game-winner was an own goal. Hearts now must come out with at least two goals and a win in Athens at the end of the month. Kind of a tall order, no? If it were my team, I'd be depressed, too, maybe enough to get a little nostalgic for my easier youth—nostalgic enough to buy a nuclear submarine. I won't lie—it'll be lame to see Hearts bow out of the Champions League this early. But before I start to whine about how all they'll have to play for, now, is the SPL, obviously winning the league gets you certain advantages—like missing out on these foolish qualifying rounds in the Champions League. So let's just hope that the lietuviai on Hearts breathe a little of the leftover success of LT United lingering in Athens and each score once. Then, Romanov will still have the nuclear sub, and he'll, also, have a team moving on. |
