Proud Italian defense in shock after Danilevičiaus goal. lrytas.lt
Hearts got drummed out of a spot in the Champions League last week, falling 3–0 to AEK in Olympic Stadium. They're now in the UEFA Cup, facing AC Sparta Praha in first round action on 14 September.

But who cares about the failure of a fake Lithuanian team when you can celebrate the success of a real Lithuanian team—the Rinktinė? In today's qualifying matches for Euro 2008, Lithuania tied Italy, 1–1—in Naples. Not only that, but Lithuania enjoyed a lead over the cynical world champions for a whole nine minutes. Not exactly the welcoming party the Italians expected for their fourth star, which was débuted at the match.

Lithuania's goal-scorer, Tomas Danilevičius, plays in the Serie B, but I imagine this goal (off a pass from Hearts's Deividas Česnauskis) might be the biggest one he's hit in Italy yet.

The next qualifier is Wednesday in Kaunas, when Lithuania hosts Scotland, who gutted the Faroe Islands, minnow among minnows, 6–0 today. Lithuania takes its chances against the Faroese in their third qualifier, in October. Hearts's coach, Valdas Ivanauskas, will be providing the Rinktinė with tips about Scottish players that he's picked up from the SPL.
